Katie's Shower...more posts scroll down

We had a shower for Katie at my house last Saturday. She is such an amazing person and is going to be a terrific mommy! We can't wait to meet Caroline! She'll be here soon! Enjoy a few pics from the party:

monkey retreat

We had our bi-monthly "monkey" retreat at the beach- minus a few "monkeys". We had such a fun time that all of our belly's hurt when we left from laughing way too much. I really don't think you can laugh TOO much...can you?

White Flag!

Early on, when Cal and I first started dating- this was "our song"- you know everybody has a "song" ha! It was our theme song to make it through graduate school and medical school and one day eventually get to live in the same town and get married! When Cal calls my cell phone- this is the song that plays.... well we were listening to the radio last night while we "based" it ( "basing it" is our nightly ritual of sitting and talking with no TV or interuptions) and this song came on- it started to take on a new meaning in our life at this point. We made some big decisions as a family last night- we threw up the white flag! surrendered- so to speak! (yes- I'm talking about babies) I can't tell you how happy I am about that decision! As we finished our discussion- this song came on---

loved this part:

If I can't have you right now, then I'll wait dear

Sometimes, I get so tense

But I can't speed up the time

- All we need is just a little patience!

This is definitely OUR theme song ~ ha

I DID IT!!!!

I broke down and bought it.... and I am ecstatic!!!!! I am working summer school this summer to pay for this little beauty and I couldn't be more excited!!! Anybody need any monogramming done in the near future- I will more than willingly oblige!

Pics coming soon… just a little rant….

I went to the beach with my dear girlfriends last weekend... the "monkeys"- well....some of them! We missed you Nicci and Leah! I have some really good pics that I will post this weekend... I am at work at the moment and don't have the pics on this computer.

Today is a weird day-

-my student teacher Ale'- who has became more of a best friend than a colleague is leaving today- I am SO sad.

-My sub didn't show up for me to be able to finish my assessments- and the irony is that I set up for a sub for everyone on my team and coordinated a switch off to 5th grade this afternoon- after all of that hoopla- MY sub is the ONLY sub that didn't show up.

- I have an awful cold!!

- hmmmm could I complain about anything else..... NO I will not allow myself- but man it feels good to write it all down sometimes!

Did I say I and My enough in all of that ranting?…

I think today is also weird because of the bad news that Cal and I got the other day- but I am reminded of this:

God is not on Plan B.
This is still Plan A.

Indeed.

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD."As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts." Isaiah 55:8-9

Thank God for that!

verse for the day

13For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. 14I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. 15My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. 17How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! 18If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.
I have to always remember this-remember that we are made in secret!!!

Please say a special prayer that the Lord does His will in our family. For those of you that know all that is going on- please say a very specific prayer. I know that God will do His will and we will be pleased with whatever that might be. Hope you are all having a marvelous week!

Live Strong!

Happy Wednesday!! I just wanted to introduce ya'll to my new past-time obsession! LIVESTRONG.COM I am having so much fun entering in my food on the daily plate…It lets you put in your food and the portion- then it tells you your sodium, calories, fat, EVERYTHING. It tells you how much more you need and what you don't need! It is really letting me see what a difference my food choice makes in my calorie intake! This is amazing! Go to daily plate and try it- it is FREE too! Have fun checking it out!!! J Does anybody know of any other sites that do this?

A Beautiful Weekend!

My parents came in town this weekend- we haven't seen them since Christmas….WOW! That is way too long for a momma's and daddy's girl like me! Even though I talk to them once (four or five) times a day, it is not the same as seeing them and spending time with them. They came up to my school on Friday to see the kids and bring them a little treat. They got to sit through recess with us and watch all of the madness that occurs out there! J The weather started coming in on Friday so we just grabbed food and ate at home and went to bed early. Saturday morning Mom and I went and did a yoga class while Dad started fixing my closet rack that had fallen to the floor with all of my pretty dresses in tow… (my feelings were VERY hurt) L ha! Dad made it look like new and even better than before. Cal got home from being on call and mom and dad took us to Flemings for a nice steak dinner! It was yummy!

Easter was fabulous…and YES… Cal and I still got an Easter basket from my mom and dad! Ha! J Here are a few pictures from Sunday! I had such a great time getting to see my parents! I don't know what I would do without them!

Wednesday's Walk- Wonderful Day!

Well... it's Wednesday, and time for a walk down memory lane!
Click on the button above to see where the idea originated...

I have to take a little time today to remember the best day of my life...well...so far!
You guessed it! It is the day that I married the man of my dreams, and to take this walk back even farther- I will take you back to the day in 1986 when I asked God to bring me to this amazing man. I was only 7 years old...YES...7 years old. My mom told me about a friend of hers that wrote a prayer in the back of her Bible when she was young describing the man that she wanted God to bring into her life one day, and ultimately, God did that very thing.
I remember sitting down with my Bible and VERY seriously thinking about the kind of life that I wanted to live and the kind of man that I wanted to raise my children one day. I prayed for a man that would put me 2nd only to God in his life and would be the spiritual leader for our family. I prayed for a husband that was a hard worker (man...I didn't know how hard of a worker I would get...Cal is the most dedicated person that I know). I prayed for someone that would love his children with all of his heart and be a loving disciplinarian (I know that he will be). I even through in a little prayer that maybe he could even be good looking haha (and YES- God granted me my wish). I prayed for a husband that had a sensitive spirit and would listen to the Lord to guide his life. Obviously, I listened to my parents alot...because at that point in my life...boys were YUCKY! haha! I just have to say THANK YOU to God for all that He did give me... He gave me everything that I prayed for and even MORE! THANK YOU- THANK YOU!
Here is my prince charming!

Sweet Caroline, a few projects and a few “monkeys”!

This weekend, Cal was STILL under the weather on Friday night. He has been fighting this bug for 5 days and finally had solid food this weekend! YAY! I went over to one of my student's (from last year) house on Saturday morning and did her hair for her jazz pictures. It made me want a little girl now when God has planned. I will do my little girl's hair like it is my job! J Here are a few pictures of sweet Caroline! She is just way too precious! I also did a few projects this weekend: I learned how to etch glass and I followed these directions. I made a few wedding gifts and a birthday gift. THEN…a few "monkeys" of my good friends came over to Bham to see "Wicked". I met up with them at Babies R Us to do a little shopping for her sister's baby that is on the way. I always hate love going to Babies R Us… Then we went to eat Mexican! Yum yum! Here are a few pictures of monkeys Laura, Leigh Anne and myself outside of the restaurant! As you can tell…the term "monkeys" is a endearing term we use for ourselves…and a few inside jokes hidden in there as well…. There are about 8 "monkeys" in all…ha
I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend! Did you do anything fun this weekend? Do you have a nickname for your group of friends? I would love to hear about it!!!

A Walk down Memory Lane...

Click on the button above to see the creator of Wednesday's Walk, Lynnette Kraft.
Wednesday's Walk is a time of reflection on the past and how it has made you stroger today.
Today I want to take a walk down memory lane with some of the very dear ladies that I call friends. I have so many friends, some from high school and some from college and some from where I am now in life. I can't say that one friendship is better than the other friendship, but all friendships do touch you in different ways. The ways that my friends from high school touched me was very different from the way that my friends from college touched me. Not one was more than the other...just different. I am going to focus on my college friends in this post. I will save a post for my sweet friends from high school for another day (they are STILL my best friends by the way... I know...that is RARE) !
Today I will focus on "The Monkeys"/ "The Old Crew"!
Well.... Here they are: from left (top) Leigh Anne, Laura, Me, Christina, and Mindy
From left (bottom) Leah, Alicia, Laura Beth, Nicci, and Rachel
Honestly, I have no idea what my life would be like without these beautiful women. They have encouraged, inspired, loved, cried, laughed, danced, and wrote a beautiful imprinting on my heart that will forever be apart of my very being. Most of us are sorority sisters. We met early on in college and have all been inseparable every since. We have always had an incredible bond that has held us together for years!
I do want to share one memory that all of these girls will remember fondly. It was a weekly tradition during our tenure at Ole Miss. We would run grab our beverage of choice, grab or make dinner together, and go directly to the back porch of my house. There we would sit for hours on end; laughing, talking, telling our "remember when" stories, and loving life together. That spot would be the spot where relationships and boys would be analyzed beyond belief, a place where goals were stated, God's plans for our lives were discussed, dreams were set in motion and friends became sisters. Sometimes I wish we could go back to that porch, knowing what we know now. I wonder how different our talks would have been? Would our dreams and goals have been the same? You know...I'm sure that they would be... although our lives have thrown curve balls at us, we have all become stronger by learning to swerve!
