10 things I have learned about being a resident's wife:

I saw this on my friend Kim's blog this morning and HAD to re post/edit! I was dying laughing reading! I thought this would be a great thing to put up on Cal's LAST day as a resident! He is heading up to Kentucky to start the last leg of this adventure. He will now be a Cardiology Fellow...but I am certain that these top 10 things that I learned about being a resident's wife will still apply! ha

Here is My Top Ten:

10) 9-5 does not exist. (EVER)

9) Never put out dinner when he is says he is leaving the hospital. Wait at least 2o minutes, call him back and make sure he really did escape, then put it out.

8) Whatever time he says he will be home, add at least 2 hours.

7) He can fall asleep in less than 2 seconds even if he is eating, talking, showering, or even watching a major sporting event that he has been dying to watch!

6) It is okay to sleep in the guest room when he is on take-home call or you will be up every five seconds listening to pages and orders that will leave you dreaming of hospitals, orderlies and nurses.

5) Family comes first...HA...yeah right! Your wife is having surgery at 10:00 a.m.? Oh, OK...see you at 1:oo. Oh, and good luck.

4) An 80 hour work week is normal and is the limit residents are allowed to work. HA! SOOO not true!

3) There is no such thing as time off to help your family. "Your wife is 20 weeks pregnant with twins and you are moving to KY this week? Tell your wife good luck as she moves by herself....we will see you every day this week at 6:30 a.m. sharp!"

2) You go to everything by yourself! You get really used to sitting through couples dinners, weddings, supper clubs, and family reunions BY YOURSELF! You become VERY independent!

1) If he really loves what he does, then you can live through 3 tough years and even make it through 3 more as a Fellow!

Cal, I am SO proud of you! You have done such an amazing job as a resident. I never once heard you complain. You are such a hard worker and I could not be more proud of you and excited for you as you move ahead in this journey to fulfill your dream. I can't believe that this chapter in our life is over. It is amazing to me. It seems like yesterday Ava and I were standing beside the "Alabama" sign with you taking our picture on our way to Birmingham! You are such a strong and dedicated man and I am so proud to call you my husband. You are going to be such an amazing example for our children! I can't wait to see you this Sunday! HURRY UP AND COME HOME!!!! I love you!

What a cute post! I am going to email this to my friend Meghan whose husband is starting his 4th year of med school in a week and they are due to have their first baby in a week. She'll definitely appreciate this.

I can't wait for the twins to get here!
